The Importance of Knee Health

Knees-over-toe (ATG TRAINING SYSTEMS) mobility refers to the ability to move your knees forward over your toes during various movements. This mobility is crucial for optimal lower body function, strength, and injury prevention. Many traditional fitness beliefs caution against allowing the knees to go past the toes, but modern understanding suggests that when done correctly, it's a natural and necessary movement.

Here's why knees-over-toe mobility is important:

  1. Improved Functionality:

Allowing the knees to move over the toes is a natural biomechanical function. Restricting this movement can limit your ability to perform daily activities and certain exercises.

  2. Reduced Shear Force on Knees:

Proper knees-over-toe alignment can distribute force more evenly across the knee joint, potentially reducing the risk of injury.

  3. Enhanced Athletic Performance:

Many sports and physical activities require dynamic movements that involve the knees moving beyond the toes. Developing this mobility can enhance athletic performance.

  4. Prevention of Knee Issues:

Building strength and mobility in the knees-over-toe position can contribute to healthier knee joints and may help prevent certain issues, such as patellofemoral pain syndrome. This is huge as we age!

  5. Functional Training:

Functional movements often involve the knees moving forward over the toes, especially in activities like squatting, lunging, and jumping. Developing this mobility ensures your training is more functional and applicable to real-life movements.
